Today is our first day of walking on the San Salvador. As usual we were up before 7:00am, breakfasted and on the way by 7:20.
The first 8.5 km were boring and uninspiring following the Rio Bernese on concrete footpaths through to the outskirts of Leon and into Carbajal de la Legua. At least we could get a cup of coffee in Carbajal.
Leaving Carbajal we continued parallel with the Rio Bernese on small tracks through forests of oaks and other native vegetation with a couple of steep climbs thrown in for good measure. These paths continued for about 14 km until the village of Cascantes and was the nicest section walked this year on our Caminos so far.
As usual we were accompanied by cuckoo’s and the odd woodpecker. On the track we could see hoof prints of deer although none were spotted.
The final 5 Km into La Robla was along a bitumen road and not so interesting.
Tonight we are staying at a small Albergue (total 6 residents) with a bar next door which is very convenient.
Tomorrow we move into the mountains.

Great photos
