The day commenced with breakfast at Les Halles de Pau ( the market) which was in a new award winning building providing lots of space for the various shop fronts and customers as well as areas for eating.
After breakfast Paul, Jane and Judy visited the Musee de Beaux-Arts while I visited le quartier du chateau. Unfortunately the chateau was closed until 1:00pm and only provided guided tours in French. I then visited the Eglise St Martin and Eglise St Jacques. Surprise !Surprise!
In the afternoon Jane and Judy ignored yet another of the Camino golden rule and went shopping. There is a lot to be said for carrying an additional kilogram or two when you have the Pyrenees to cross. That message doesn’t seem to have sunk in for the ‘girls’ The pack got heavier and the bank card lighter!
Paul and I spent the afternoon having a drink on the Boulevard des Pyrenees and strolling back to the town centre through Rue du Hedas (a sunken road running along the bottom of the ravine) that bisects the city from below the chateau to the centre.
Tonight we had a ’Pique-Nique’ in our hotel consisting of goodies bought from Les Halles market. The Pyrenees cheese was magnifique!
