It rained heavily overnight although it was dry when we headed into L’lsle-Jordan to the market and for coffee and pastries for breakfast. We then headed back to our accommodation, picked up our packs and headed onto today’s stage.
Initially the walking was along a levy bank beside the river and although it was wet underfoot it was possible to keep out of most of the puddles and patches of mud.
This all came to an abrupt end when our path coincided with some new road construction which required some tricky navigation to stay on our feet. The only issue was the mud which built up on our shoes making it both difficult to walk and a disaster for Jane who spent half an hour last night cleaning hers.
All was OK until we reached the point where we had to cross the new road work which resulted in more mud and more shoe cleaning.
Eventually we arrived at our half way point in Monferran-Saves were we were able to get a coffee to go with our lunch.
Leaving the town we ran into a fiesta celebrating something that we did not understand which involve playing brass instruments, singing and a lot of drinking. We spent half an hour with the group and accepted a drink of the local wine.
Our next rest was in Giscaro outside the local church.
Issue send Finally we walked into Gimont and found our accommodation although gaining access was another issue. The PIN number provided for the front door lock didn’t work! Jane spent several minutes on the phone to the proprietor to sort it out while we all waited desperate for a rest and a shower.
Initially the day threatened to rain but as we progressed the weather improved with the afternoon becoming warm and sunny. All of the walk was through agricultural land on small lanes usually lined with oak trees.
All up we completed in excess of 21 kilometres today.
