As today was to be a longer walk we decided that an early start was the way to go. After breakfast at our favourite patisserie we left Auch just after 8:00am.

On the outskirts of the city we walked past a garden filled with spectacular metal sculptures and were invited into the house to see many more creations by the artist.

Once we left the city we walked through farmland and oak forests with spectacular views in all directions and in particular to the south where the Pyrenees could be seen in the distance.

We stopped for lunch just outside the gate into Barran, which is a very pretty village with a large church (closed) with a twisted spire.

On our walk er encountered 3 deer, several horses, goats and a couple of pigs.

From Barran we followed the D934 for the last 6 kilometres into L’lsle de Noe where we are staying the night at “Edna’s Gite” which is run by Edna from Manchester. At this point I will leave a full description of our accommodation to Jane.

Well the decor at Chez Edna is somewhat eclectic, however, one is more overwhelmed by the layer upon layer of dust, rags, broken down furniture, chaos, and clapped out garbage. The dirty pool water reflects the general state of affairs. . The building is ancient and huge but any former glory has long since evaporated. On a positive note a huge glass of rose and a couple of cold beers in the garden of the village chateau adjacent to Edna’s was a welcome end to the day.
