We left Segovia at 7:00 this morning in heavy rain which made finding and negotiating the path out of the city more difficult than it should have been. Once we cleared Segovia we walked between fields of wheat and barley which was a change from the native forests and grazing land that we had been traversing previously. The heavy rain continued all the way to Valseca soaking both our trousers and footwear.
On arrival in Los Huetos we found that the bar was closed and we had to forgo yet another opportunity for refreshments. We did however witness the arrival of the local mobile grocer who drove into town with his hand on his horn to announce his arrival. The only other positive was that the rain had reduced to a light drizzle.
We walked into Ane after completing over 20Km just as the rains stopped and were able to obtain a drink at the small bar (the only shop in town). From Ane we descended into a pretty valley where we were reacquainted with wet feet crossing a flooded stream.
Finally after a long and constant 5 Km climb we reached Pinilla Ambros where we removed our wet gear for the final section of the walk into Santa Maria la Real de Nieva. We arrived in time to participate in the usual Spanish late lunch which is our preferred daily meal. Waiting until 8:00 pm to eat is not a good option for a tired pilgrim.
