The day started with an excellent breakfast at our accommodation in Tres Cantos putting us on the road around 8:00am. Little did we know that it was going to be the only meal for the day.
The walk to Colmenar Vejo was excellent through native vegetation and along a small river which required multiple crossings on stepping stones. This was carried out successfully by all but Jen who ended up with wet feet.
In Clemente Vejo we visited the church where we had our credentials singed and stopped for refreshments. At this point Jen and Dave decided the next 14km would be best accomplished by taxi leaving Phil and I as true pilgrims to continue on alone. The walk was special through rocky landscape between stone walls with a backdrop of holm oaks and other native vegetation.
Wildlife seen today included a rabbit, griffon vulture, storks and European magpies.
Arriving in Manzanares el Real we found that there was no power due to a nation wide failure which has provided problems for all of Spain and other European countries. Our host for the night told us that there were no issues providing meals as he cooked on gas. This seemed to be a reasonable response until we requested a meal at 8:00pm and were told that the kitchen was closed due to lack of lighting. Consequently our evening meal has been an ice cream and some chocolate. Hopefully power will be restored tomorrow and we can obtain a reasonable breakfast.
The lateness of this blog has been the lack of access to the internet due to the power outage.

Re photo of Phil. When you mentioned that breakfast was the only meal for the day, it looked like he ate everyone's breakfast. Keep on trekking, Cheers Mal.
