Phil and I finally arrived at Madrid airport at 9:30pm last night, getting to our accommodation around an hour later. After checking in we contacted Jen and arranged to meet at our favourite Taberna “La Fragua de Vulcano” for a drink. Consequently it was well after midnight when we finally crawled into bed.
Overall it was a long and drawn out trip as a result of the unexpected deviation to Jakarta and the layover in Doha waiting for the afternoon plane.
Today has been spent wandering around the city (dodging piles of rubbish due to a strike by the garbage workers), watching the parade for the changing of the guard at the Royal Palace, visiting the Mercado de San Miguel, having our credentials stamped at the church of St James and John the Baptist and visiting the Cathedral.
With communications euros sorted we are now ready to commence our Camino tomorrow.
Sounds like a different sort of trip so far, although you got a break in Doha. We also had a free night at the same Hotel due to missed connection, found hotel was ok.
