Last night we had an excellent Albergue with spacious rooms, kitchen, lounge and everything else a pilgrim needs including breakfast.

It was a donativo Albergue which means that you pay what you think the accommodation is worth. Some pilgrims pay nothing while others will contribute a more than fair amount for the services provided.

Jen and Dave being dedicated pilgrims decided to take a taxi and avoid the possibility of having to walk on wet and muddy tracks.

Not being afraid of a little bit of rain, Phil and l headed off at around 7:45 into a somewhat gloomy day. We were able to obtain refreshments at Villalon de Campos after five and a half kilometres. The walk from Villalon to Fontihoyuelo was uneventful through fields of wheat barley and granola, although it was uphill all the way for just over 8 Km. As we approached Fontihoyuelo is started to rain although only lightly. From there to Santervas de Campos it rained steadily and provided a very difficult final 8 kilometres for the day. The options were either walking on the muddy track or taking to the grass and having wet feet. The latter was the best choice as the mud was a very unpleasant and sticky option.

On arrival we were greeted by our hospitaliro who will provide dinner tonight and breakfast tomorrow morning.

The Albergue is excellent with lots of space and excellent facilities, 14 beds and only 4 residents tonight.

Surprisingly there is a small bar just down the street that did not exist when I was last here in 2022.

Santervas de Campos is the birthplace of Jaun Ponce de Leon who sailed with Christopher Colombus and is credited as being the first European to set foot on mainland America (Miami).

Thoroughly enjoying the blog John, keep up the great work. Phil's looking pretty fit,the weather does not look too good though. Beautiful here but some rain would be nice.
