Yesterday evening we were able to have our credentials stamped at the small Albergue attached to the church in Sarrance.
This morning we left at 8:30 after a disappointing breakfast of small croissants and bread. At least the coffee was hot and plentiful.
The walk through to Bedous was again in the forest on the side of the gorge above the Gave d’Aspe. The track was narrow and slippery and at one point had a wire rope handrail attached to the cliff face. Along the river were a numbers of abandoned and derelict buildings that had in a previous life been water mills.
Once we crossed the river and the rail line, the walk into Accous was easier with views of the Pyrenees all around.
We stopped in Bedous for a drink and to have our credentials stamped at the tourist office which also provided information on the track closures due to landslides last year between Pont de Lescan and Urdos.
Approaching Accous we watched the paragliders in the distance and were able to walk past their landing area. Some were on target while others missed the landing area completely.
After a rest in Accous we walked through to the bus stop at Pont de Lescan along the busy N134 to await the 4:00pm 550 bus.
As we arrived prior to 3:00pm Paul thought it would be a good idea to try hitch hiking through to our overnight destination in Urdos. Nobody wanted to pick up four pilgrims and their backpacks so the bus it was.
The only problem with the bus was the fact that there were two stops in Urdos so naturally we got off at the first one to find out that we still had a kilometre to walk to our accommodation.
On arrival Jane was disappointed as the nasty Canadian pilgrims had arrived before us and had stolen the room with the double bed. Consequently we are in a room for four, but at least we have beds.
